GHR (Gender and Human Rights)/GBV Outreach at Akwakuma Girls Secondary School

As part of its commitment to promoting gender equality, protecting human rights, and creating awareness on issues affecting young people, GHR @yabs Nigeria alongside other CBOs implementing NEPWHAN CLM project in Imo state successfully organized Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Outreach at Akwakuma Girls Secondary School.

The outreach brought together students, educators, and stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on gender-based violence and harmful cultural practices that continue to affect women and girls. One of the key topics addressed was Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), highlighting its harmful physical, emotional, and psychological effects, as well as the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of every girl child.

Through interactive sessions, participants were educated on recognizing different forms of gender-based violence, speaking up against abuse, and becoming advocates for positive change within their communities. The program also emphasized the need for collective action in building a society where every individual can live free from violence, discrimination, and harmful traditional practices.

The overwhelming participation and enthusiasm of the students demonstrated the importance of continuous awareness campaigns and youth engagement in the fight against gender-based violence.

Together, we can create safer communities, empower young people with knowledge, and champion a future where human rights are respected and protected for all.
